Meet Nicole! - Columbus Moms Network

Meet Nicole, the mom (and owner!) behind Rise Chiropractic & Nutrition.

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

We have one son, Paxton, who just turned one in September. Watching him grow this past year has been the greatest adventure – every month feels like our new “favorite season” as he discovers something new.

How long have you lived in the Columbus area and what brought you here?

I grew up in the Cincinnati area and moved to Columbus in 2010 to attend Ohio State for undergrad, where I studied nutrition. Jay and I actually met living on the same floor of our dorm freshman year, and we started dating a week before we graduated.

After Ohio State, I went to St. Louis for chiropractic school at Logan University. Jay and I dated long distance during those three years while he completed grad school at Ohio State. We got engaged in 2018, married in 2019, and I’ve been back in Columbus since 2017. Columbus has become home for us, and it’s been incredible to build our practice and raise our family here.

What does your family enjoy doing together in your spare time?

We love getting outside whenever we can – taking walks around the neighborhood, going apple picking in the fall, and just soaking up family time at home. Paxton is obsessed with playing ball right now, so that’s become a daily ritual. We also cherish the slower moments – weekend mornings together, Sunday dinners, and honestly, just being present with each other without any agenda.

Tell us about your business, Rise Chiropractic & Nutrition and what made you decide to open your own practice.

Rise Chiropractic & Nutrition is the practice Jay and I built together, and it opened in July 2021. Jay is a registered dietitian, and together we take a holistic, whole-body approach to wellness. My journey to opening Rise started with being furloughed during COVID from my first job out of chiropractic school—which at the time felt like failure, but turned out to be the greatest gift. Those eight weeks gave me space to rediscover my passion and realize I wanted to practice differently. I was tired of seeing people treated like numbers, given generic advice instead of personalized care. I wanted to change the way chiropractic is viewed and received in our community—to create a place where people never feel rushed, where they get real time with their doctor, and where we integrate chiropractic and nutrition to address the whole person. Getting to do this alongside Jay, who shares the same vision for transforming wellness care, makes it even more meaningful.

Who are your typical clients and what do they come to you for?

Our typical clients are high-capacity women—often in their mid-to-late 30s, career-driven, many are moms—who feel like they’re doing everything right but still don’t feel great. They’re exhausted, disconnected from their bodies, dealing with tension from sitting at desks all day, or struggling to keep up with their kids and their lives. They come to us because they want personalized care that actually gets to the root of what’s going on, not just a quick fix. They’re ready to feel vibrant, energized, and strong in their bodies again.

What type of care do your patients receive when they are a patient of Rise Chiropractic & Nutrition?

At Rise, we take a comprehensive, team-based approach. We offer 15 and 30-minute chiropractic appointments directly with the doctor—no rushing in and out. We also offer both 1:1 and group nutrition coaching with Jay that can stand alone or complement chiropractic care, because we believe true wellness happens when both are working together. Our patients get personalized care plans based on their unique goals and exam findings, and they have full access to our team between visits. We’re not just treating symptoms—we’re helping people build a foundation so their bodies can handle everything life throws at them.

What do you love about your business and what you do?

I love that we get to see people transform—not just physically, but in how they show up in their lives. When someone feels better in their body, everything else improves. They sleep better, have more energy, show up as better partners and parents, and approach challenges with renewed confidence. I also love that we built Rise to reflect our values—personalized care, real relationships, and treating people the way we’d want to be treated. And honestly, getting to do this work alongside Jay and our incredible team makes it all even more fulfilling.

How do you juggle your work and being a mom?

Some days I nail it, other days I’m learning—and that’s the honest truth. Things are always shifting. I work out three days a week now, and I’ve let go of the all-or-nothing mentality I used to have. I used to plan everything in advance, but now I have a framework that flexes with what’s happening—how was my day at the office, what do Jay and Paxton need? We’re grateful for the amazing people at Paxton’s daycare who take care of him while we get to do what we love—run our business and care for people. The key for me has been learning that balance isn’t about doing it all perfectly. Some days we choose sleep over workouts and family dinners over extra work hours. And honestly, that’s exactly what this season needs.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Mornings start with getting Paxton ready and dropping him off at daycare. Then Jay and I head to the office, where we spend the day seeing patients, leading our team, and working on growing Rise. I try to work out in the mornings now—three days a week—which has been a good rhythm. Evenings are all about family time: picking up Paxton, playing ball in the backyard, making dinner, and winding down together. Some days are more chaotic than others, but we’ve learned to embrace the ebb and flow rather than fight it.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a new mom?

There is no bouncing back. You’re not supposed to go back to who you were before – you’re meant to become someone new. Let your body tell you what it needs rather than following someone else’s timeline or rules about what recovery should look like. Some days will feel easier, others will feel ten times harder, and that’s okay. The joy is in the adapting, not the perfecting.
