Meet Kasey! - Columbus Moms Network

Columbus Moms Network is so happy to share that we are growing! Kasey is so excited to join Columbus Moms Network and we’re thrilled for you to get to know a bit more about her here, and of course you’ll start to see her on our Instagram page as well!

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

We have two kids, Blakely and Bowen and they are 8 and 5. And our pup, Dodger, is an English Cream Golden Retriever.

How long have you lived in Columbus and what brought you here?

A job relocation for my husband brought us to Columbus just this summer! We moved from Montgomery, Texas (about an hour or so outside of Houston), where I was the co-owner of North Houston Moms, which is how I got connected with Shona. (Did you know Columbus Moms Network is part of a larger network throughout the country?)

What do you love about living in Columbus so far?

My first answer would be the weather! Although that answer might change come January. Texas is just SO hot and humid that summer revolves around indoor activities only. We were just giddy moving here and spending so much time outdoors. Dodger might be the happiest out of all of us. That dog loves to just lay in the sun! The other thing I love is just how accessible the city is. There is SO much to do and it’s all fairly easy to get to. And of course, as the weather starts to change, we are loving the fall colors.

Why did you want to join Columbus Moms Network?

I ran the North Houston page for about three years and it was just so much fun to explore new places with my family and share those places with other moms. I loved being a resource for so many and truly sharing the same things I was looking up – best parks, places to eat with kids, where to have birthday parties, etc. When I found out we were being relocated, the first thing I did was send Shona a DM asking her all the things! She took time to answer my questions, gave me loads of information and I just knew she was a rock-solid resource. And that same resourcefulness shows through Columbus Moms Network! It was an easy yes when she asked if I’d be interested in teaming up!

I’m most looking forward to exploring our new city, sharing that with all of you and just also continuing to be a one stop shop for things busy parents are looking for.

What is your favorite thing about being a Mom?

I love so much about it and I love every stage we go through more and more. Do I love how quick time seems to move? Not at all. But each stage and age gets better and better and I just love these little humans so much. I love watching their personalities form and helping them through challenges they may face. I’ve also never been prouder of them than I have been through this move, especially my 8-year-old. Her strength and outlook on all of it gave us such peace that we were making the right decision.

What is the best advice you ever got from another Mom?

Do what works for your family. In the age of social media, it is hard to not be bombarded from all of the “noise.” I tried really hard to do this from the start – with sleeping and eating and now with sports and sleepovers. Everyone has an opinion, but the only thing that matters is what works for you, your spouse and your kids. There will always be noise and information overload – but you are doing a good job with or without it.

In your spare time, what do you and your family enjoy doing together?

We are all homebodies – we just like to be together! We are deep in our Lego era, so that’s always a fun thing we can do together. It’s hard for me to say no to a new Lego set! I love playing any kind of game, so I’m raising game-loving kids so we can get my husband to join (he doesn’t love them, but we’re working on him!). We like to watch sports (Dodgers and Chiefs mostly). I really love to bake and the kids like to help and lick the bowl, of course. My daughter and I just started reading the Harry Potter series together, so that’s been a lot of fun and I love that we get to do that together. We love to go on walks around the neighborhood with our pup and we’re working on riding bikes longer distances, those five-year-old legs get tired quick!

I also love a good thrift store and the kids have been into it lately too. They love the hunt and a good find! Send any of your favorites my way!!

Favorite Spots in Columbus so far?
This is a growing list, of course, but here are some things we’ve done and loved!
COSI, Columbus Zoo, Lego Discovery Center – we now have memberships to all three of these places!

Shale Hollow Park (pictured) – I’ll never stop raving about this place. It is magical and unlike anywhere we’d ever been!

North High Brewing in Westerville – We were lucky to snag a table out back in the green space on a Friday evening. The food was great and my kids liked hearing Westerville South’s marching band warm up before Friday’s football game.

Blendon Woods – y’all the metro parks are all so amazing! This was the first one we went to, so it holds a special place in our heart!
